Using Inner Active Cards in Counseling

Get your cards out. We’re actually going to use them.
Inner Active Cards can be a powerful way to help clients put something in front of them that may be difficult to explain with words alone. But having the cards and knowing what to actually do with them in session are two different things.
That’s what we’re doing for two hours.
This is a hands-on workshop. You’ll have your own deck spread out in front of you while we practice different ways to use the cards to explore parts of self, internal struggles, resources, support, relationships, and unmet needs.
You do not need to know IFS or have previous training in parts work. I’ll walk you through the interventions, you’ll experience them yourself, and we’ll talk about how to take what you learn and use it with clients.
What We’ll Actually Practice
Resource Parts + Struggling Part
Identify braver, kinder, wiser, and stronger parts and explore how those internal resources might respond to a part that is struggling.
Supported + Unsupported Parts
Explore which parts of self currently feel supported, which feel less supported, and what support might actually look like.
How I Respond to This Part
Explore the difference between how someone typically responds to a part of themselves and how that part may need to be responded to.
Family as Experienced + Family as Needed
Use the cards to explore significant family relationships and compare what was experienced with what was needed.
And we’ll talk about the questions that come next.
What do you ask after someone chooses a card?
How do you deepen the work without interpreting the image for them?
How do you know when to keep going, slow down, or stop?
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Identify at least three ways to use Inner Active Cards in counseling to help clients explore parts of self, including internal conflict, protective responses, emotional needs, and relational patterns.
2. Apply at least three Inner Active Card interventions designed to help clients identify, externalize, and explore relationships among parts of self.
